Where are you located?
In the woods of far Northern California, right under the Oregon border.
How long have you been practicing your craft?
I have been practicing soldering for over a year, experimenting with whatever I could find, or fit between two pieces of glass.
Have you had any formal training in it? Where did you learn your skills?
I haven’t had any formal training but lots of experimenting and have been creating ever since I was small.
What made you decide to start an Etsy shop?
My mother was able to work from home creating clothes for stuffed animals for a small company. As she would sew, so would I and from there, my love of creating blossomed. I’ve made everything from Victorian Lampshades to mosaic bookcases, but once I become obsessed with lichen, I knew others would appreciate it as well.
What makes your Etsy shop stand out from all the others out there?
My work and my Etsy shop stands out from the rest because my work is so unique. Nature has made beautiful works of art that I can encapsulate in glass and share with others.
What do you find to be the most fun and rewarding about having your own shop?
I love being able to go outside, walk through the woods and find treasures with my kids and then come back and solder and play until I create a one of a kind piece.
What helps to inspire you when creating?
I would say the great Etsy community. It is so nice to be able to ask a question, even if it’s a silly one, and have friends take the time, to either look information up for you or just give you the advice you need.
Where do you see your Etsy shop in a year? Or where would you like to see it?
I’ve had one sale on etsy so far, but I have also been featured on the front page (which made me do the happy dance in my living room with my kids) So I know that I’m doing something right. I plan on sticking with my goal of selling on Etsy and be able to watch grow with my children.
What words of wisdom do you have for readers who are considering opening a shop on Etsy to sell their own handmade creations?
If people are hesitant about starting a shop, I would say: “Just do it, jump in and feel it out. I love it!”
Which item in your shop is your favorite?
Mini Mint Green Terrarium Necklace.
To me it has a personality, it reminds me of a little piece of lint that could live on your shoulder and be your friend.
