What is your Etsy shop name?
Fabulous and Sick Designs

Where are you located?
Detroit, MI

How long have you been practicing your craft?
I have been creating jewelry for the past two years. I use to crochet and do macrame as a child at the local community center. I decided to pick it back up to help with the dexterity in my hands and fell in love with the creative process all over again.

Have you had any formal training in it? Where did you learn your skills?
I took several classes at my local craft store from an incredible artist/teacher. I also do a lot of independent research on new techniques and trends on the internet. What made you decide to start an Etsy shop? I started off just making bracelets for myself. I made my first non-personal set of bracelets for my mother. She wore them out and her co-workers and friends started sending me there bracelet request. After making a few, I decided to give Etsy a try because I thought it would be a great avenue to reach a global market and enjoy a great sense of community. I also wanted to see how well my designs could compete with other shops.

What makes your Etsy shop stand out from all the others out there?
Honestly I am still working on that aspect of my shop. I am currently in the learning process of how to distinguish my shop other than providing a fabulous, high quality product at an affordable price. One thing that I do love about my shop is that there are several bracelets on my shop that are fundraiser bracelets for the Arthritis Foundation.

What do you find to be the most fun and rewarding about having your own shop?
Independence to create what you believe in. Also the ability to connect with other shop owners who are willing to share tips and ideas to make the Etsy experience a great experience.

What does customer service mean to you?
Customer service is about providing a fabulous, high quality product that the customers can really enjoy.

Where do you find your motivation and inspiration when sales are slow?
I am fairly new to Etsy so my sales are not where I would like them to be, but I remain hopeful. I really get inspired by reading team forums and blogs about other Etsy shop owners who were in my same position and through hard work and networking were able to totally turn there shop into a big success.

What helps to inspire you when creating?
Fashion in general really inspires me. I also love looking at pictures of fashion and travel together on Pinterest. It gives me the motivation to create something fabulous for the woman or girl who loves fashion.

Where do you see your Etsy shop in a year? Or where would you like to see it?
In one year I see myself having several features on Etsy, mentoring other newbies on how to have a successful shop and over 3,000 sales.

What words of wisdom do you have for readers who are considering opening a shop on Etsy to sell their own handmade creations?
This is a business so treat it like a business. Do your research! Do your research! Do your research!

Which item in your shop is your favorite?
My current favorite items are all of my bracelets I am selling as a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. The bracelets are a fabulous way to spread awareness about the 50 Million Adults and 300,000 kids who suffer from the pain of arthritis and raise money for them at the same time. I am also a team captain for the “RA Fabulous Walkers” for the Detroit Arthritis Walk and all the proceeds from the bracelets will go to the Detroit Arthritis Foundation. You can preview my Jade Beaded Awareness Bracelet here.

Do you have a current promotion you would like to share?
I have several items for sale at 25% off. Great items that will take you from Spring right into Summer.
