What is your Etsy shop name?
IndigoIsle

Where are you located?
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

How long have you been practicing your craft?
I have been crafting for years, but just started selling items within the last year.

Have you had any formal training in it? Where did you learn your skills?
I have had no formal training in my crafts. I am a do-it-yourselfer in most things and learn a lot by trial and error.

What made you decide to start an Etsy shop?
I decided to start an Etsy shop based on feedback and encouragement from my friends and family.

What makes your Etsy shop stand out from all the others out there?
My Etsy shop may not stand out now, but will in the future by offering many differnt items, not just jewelry.

What do you find to be the most fun and rewarding about having your own shop?
The most fun part of having a shop it the creative process. I love being in the middle of my work and thinking of an idea, jotting it down on paper and after coming hope, make it a reality. The most rewarding part is seeing the traffic thru my shop and people favoriting items. It encourages me to keep creating.

What does customer service mean to you?
Customer service to me means, provided prompt feedback, short turnaround times, quick shipping and a quality product for a reasonable price.

Where do you find your motivation and inspiration when sales are slow?
When sales are slow I motivate myself by taking a break from actually crafting and putting my effort into the design process. Sometimes the mental break is just enough to keep your mind off of getting  discouraged and providing time for the creative process.

What helps to inspire you when creating?
For inspiration, I look to the what’s trending, not just on Etsy, in the stores and magazines. It’s easy to copy trends, but I also like to use the trends to find something that’s different that will stand out from the trends.

Where do you see your Etsy shop in a year? Or where would you like to see it?
In a year, I would like to see my shop being stocked with a lot more items and possibly transitioning into more than just jewelry.

What words of wisdom do you have for readers who are considering opening a shop on Etsy to sell their own handmade creations?
For those considering opening an Etsy shop I say, “do it.” Yes, it can seem daunting at first, I know it did for me and that’s why there was such a lag time between the shop opening and me posting my first items. And yes, it can be discouraging when sales are slow. But, if your truly love crafting it’s worth it to give it a try. You could be able to quit your day job, or you could just make a little extra money to put away for a rainy day. Either way it’s a win-win situation.

Which item in your shop is your favorite?
Currently, my favorite items in my shop are the simple beaded bracelets that I am making such as the jet beaded bracelet. The look great worn by themselves for a simple understated look, or stacked together for a more bold look. They have magnetic clasps which are great for people like myself who find it challenging sometimes to put on or take of bracelets. If it’s easier to put on, I’m more likely to wear it.

Do you have a current promotion you would like to share?
I currently don’t have any promotions in my shop, but check back regularly for future promotions and constantly changing stock.
